Will Putting The Wrong Fuel In My Car Cause Damage?
Putting the petrol in a diesel car or diesel in a petrol car can cause damage but isn’t always necessarily guaranteed. The quicker the fuel is removed and replenished, the less likely there is of causing any damage to the car and its fuel system.
Most fuel systems use a low-pressure electric pump in the tank or sender unit which work as soon as the ignition is switched on, which circulates the contaminated fuel through the pump and rail – so don’t turn on your engine.
Diesel fuel pumps work on very fine tolerances and are lubricated by the diesel, however petrol acts as a solvent which reduces the lubrication which can cause damage to the metal parts if not lubricated properly.
How Does Fuel Draining Work?
To ensure no damage is caused to the car and engine, it’s important that you do not turn the ignition on as once the wrong fuel is circulated it can create irreparable damage.
Each fuel drain can take as little as 15 minutes. Using the latest fuel drain technology, we will:
• Empty and drain the wrong fuel from your engine
• Remove fuel from the fuel line and filter
• Replenish your fuel tank with correct fuel
• Pump the new fuel through the fuel system to remove any traces of old fuel
